Oak Hare Raven Kite

Lessons from the world of the non-human

Join us in the beautiful Melindwr Valley, nestled on the western fringes of the Cambrian Hills, a few miles inland from the Irish Sea.

Together, we will study the Oak, Hare, Raven and Kite; the signs, signals and insights they offer us, their roles in local narrative and mythology and their place within the Welsh landscape.

 We will discover:

A deeper understanding of place, and what it means to truly connect to the place you currently inhabit

Skills and understanding to deepen your awareness of the natural world

How to identify aspects of Nature important to you in your own locality

How to discover the mythology, legend and meaning of the local non-human

As part of the Retreat we will be exploring the local valley and surroundings, including watching the Red Kites, and coastal areas at Ynyslas.

It is our hope that the experiences and tools we will explore will be things you can carry with you to create a deeper sense of connection to your own place, and the creatures you share it with.

Who:

The Retreat is being taught by Jane Pike and Kathy Price

Location

This Retreat is being held outside on a reclaimed mine that has been set up for workshops and Retreats and includes a covered area (not a building) with a central firepit which we aim to use to cook our food (and keep warm if necessary!!!!)

There are compost toilets on site.

The Retreat will be going ahead whatever the weather and will include an amount of walking each day so participants need to bring suitable warm and waterproof clothing and be able to walk for 1-2 hours over varied terrain.

Accommodation.

A list of local accommodation will be supplied including airbnb’s, bed and breakfast and hotels in the nearby locality. There is the possibility to camp on the Old Mine by prior arrangement.

A car is necessary if staying outside of the village of Goginan as public transport is sadly non-existent.
I’m hoping we can organise/share transport for those who may be attending without cars.

The nearest town is Aberystwyth – about 20 mins – 7 miles away.

There is a good selection of hotels, restaurants and food shops in Aberystwyth

Our meeting place

Jane Pike

Jane’s work explores how it is we access and bring forward our innate vitality, through our relationship to ourselves, each other and the natural world. She draws constant inspiration from the creative arts and poetry, her relationships with the animals in her life, and the many allies she finds on her daily walks and rides through the forest on her farm.

She currently calls the South Island of New Zealand/ Aotearoa home, finding solace and support from raw beauty of the landscape that surrounds her.

Jane has travelled extensively, including working as an aid worker throughout the middle east and Indian subcontinent in her 20’s, and combines her personal experiences in the world with her creative interests and expertise in movement, biomechanics and the nervous system to create experiences that are moving, enriching and transformational.

Kathy Price
Kathy comes from a scientific background having gained a BSc (Hons) in Zoology but for the last 18 years has been studying, experiencing and working with energy and connection.

From a very young age horses have been a passion in Kathy’s life, a passion that has not only connected her to wonderful people, but has also led her to profound insights into the world of energy and connection.

In 2003 her horse Midnight “led” her to a horsemanship clinic that was to be the turning point in Kathy’s life. She describes what happened at the clinic as a “spiritual experience”. Gone was her attachment to “the scientific” everything was turned on its head as Kathy realised just how much more there was to this world.

Kathy’s work is called Point of Balance. Her aim is to help the person or animal she is working with move back into balance at all levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. This move back to balance not only helps the person she is working with to heal themselves, it can also help them find and realise their true potential.

Her work is carried out in person and at distance and she is blessed and grateful to have clients, both people and animals, all over the world.
